Quote of the Day

“Everything we possess that is not necessary for life or happiness becomes a burden, and scarcely a day passes that we do not add to it. ” – Robert Brault

365 Days to a Balanced Life – Day 17

The benefits of de-cluttering your space, be it home or office are endless.  It is thought that there are energy fields attached to our processions.  Things you really love have a strong, vibrant energy field around them, whereas things such as unwanted presents have uneasy, conflicting energies attached to them, which drain you rather than energize you.

Everything you own has a hold on your attention.  The more clutter you have, the more your energy is tied up in mundane matters.  When you finally remove the clutter from your life your mind feels clearer too.  Some people report an added benefit of less colds and congestion when they live in a clutter free environment.

  1.  If  you haven’t used it in the last year or two and you don’t absolutely love it, then it’s time to send it to a new home

2.  Start small – if it feels too overwhelming, start with one drawer or one room.  Believe me you may be so inspired and energized by how good it feels to walk into a clutter free room nothing will be safe.

3.  Instead of asking yourself “will I use this again” ask yourself “what does this do for me.  Does it lift my energy or does my energy drop when I think about it or look at it”

4.  Use the one item in, one item out rule for future control

5.  You may need to do this process more than once if you have a lot of clutter and trouble letting go.

6.  Affirm to yourself:  “It’s safe to let go.”  Clearing clutter is about letting go and trusting the process of life to bring you what you need rather than keeping things “just in case.”

7.  Tips for storage – I found using the cardboard file boxes the best for managing the off season clothes and must keep memorabilia.  You are able to write on them and stack them easily

I know you will find this a gratifying experience.  If you are like me, you will find yourself wandering through the house opening cupboard doors admiring your work!

ps.  When looking for quotes on clutter I found several that I wanted to share so please look in the quote of the day section for these added words of wisdom
