365 Days to a Balanced Life Journey – Day 220

Quote of the Day

“You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair.”  – Douglas MacArthur

I received a slideshow from my ex-husband today intended for Retired People (I don’t know how I got on that list!).  He has recently decided to live his dream of living in Maui, a difficult decision knowing he would not be able to see our son as frequently.  I admire him for making this choice for himself and for his ability to be in good spirits no matter his circumstances (even before he moved to paradise).  I will post the entire slideshow for those who wish to view it (I suggest you play it with the music) however I have copied some of the message that resonated with me.

This comes at a time when I am feeling fearful for what lies ahead.  I am only 54 but my body is showing signs of aging and this has rocked me to my core.  I am super woman,  how can this be happening to me????   I am struggling to find a way to look forward with optimism and obviously reduce the impact of aging with good health practices but so much of aging is in the mind and it is there I must make the biggest adjustments.

For the first time in my life I have been looking at life as if I have past my prime.  I know this does not have to be but I have a very active imagination.  I know I have been limiting myself these past few months with this morbid thinking.  It will be something I will work on because I do not believe we have to settle for anything less than feeling vibrant every day until our last.  It is all about adjusting expectations but at the same time not limiting yourself with negative thoughts at this time in life.  The most successful and happy elderly people I see are those that continue to push the limits of what they are capable of doing while accepting the reality of what they cannot do or who they cannot be anymore.

Treat sickness with optimism.  Whether you are rich or poor everyone has to go through birth, aging, sickness and death.  There is no exception.  That is life!

Be in charge of your moods

Pay more attention to health, you can only rely on yourself in this.

Foods which are good for health eat plenty and often

Foods which are not good for health eat less once in awhile

If worries can cure your sickness, then go ahead and worry

If worries can prolong your life, then go ahead and worry

If worries can exchange for happiness, then go ahead and worry

Before Middle Age –  Do Not Fear

After Middle Age – Do Not Regret

Treasure every moment with your other half as one of you will leave first!

Seize every opportunity to meet up with your friends as such opportunities will become rare as time goes by

Smile and Laugh everyday
