365 Days to a Balanced Life Journey – Day 206

Christmas gift suggestions:

To your enemy, forgiveness.

To an opponent, tolerance.

To a friend, your heart.

To a customer, service.

To all, charity.

To every child, a good example.

To yourself, respect.

~Oren Arnold

Last night a friend asked me if he had missed some of my blog posts as he hadn’t seen any for awhile.  I realized I had let two weeks go by without a post.  Posting regularly is difficult even without some of the issues I have been dealing with lately not to mention the busyness of the Christmas Season.  I continue to do a lot of research and am excited to share some of my findings with you in the New Year when I resume blogging on a regular basis.

I love the Christmas Season and all the traditions that accompany it.   I love the shopping frenzy to make sure everyone has the perfect gift.  I love crossing the “dones” off the “To Dos” list one by one.  I love the day I spent baking shortbread cookies and rum balls with my girls (I don’t love the 3.5 pounds I have already put on eating them mind you).  I enjoy the ritual of putting out all the Santa photos every year (including the latest one that the kids have resigned themselves to getting year after year).  I love choosing a new Nutcracker to add to my collection every year.  I especially love how cozy the house looks with the tree and other decorations and my family gathered around the fire.

I still get excited for Christmas morning when the kids enter the living room to see that Santa has once again filled their stockings and dumped a pile of gifts under the tree (my youngest is 15 but we still carry on the tradition of putting most of the gifts out once they have gone to bed).  I remember all the great Christmas mornings my parents provided for me and am grateful I can do the same for my children.

What I don’t love is spending all day in the kitchen cooking for 23 people and not really being able to enjoy just being with the 23 people.  So in honor of my 365 Days to a Balanced Life Journey, this year will be different.  It will just be the six of us and I am organized and ready for a quiet day of relaxation and playing games with my family.

I have never understood why people hate Christmas.  It is the one time of the year that we can come together for an extended period of time, Christmas Eve to Boxing Day morning to enjoy our families and the traditions that have been passed down through the generations.  We do not have many traditions left in our society so I am holding on tight to the magic of Christmas and hope my children will do the same so that my future grandchildren will have the same thrill as I had as a child.
