365 Days to a Balanced Life Journey – Day 87

Quote of the Day

“If you want to live a long healthy, vibrant life, then you will have to eat life-giving foods” –Tosca Reno

I haven’t written about Eating Clean recently so you may think that it has fallen out of favor with me.  Not so.  The longer I am on this, the easier it gets, the better I feel.  There is a downside though.  The more you introduce clean foods into your diet the less tolerance you will have for “anti- food”.  That is anything processed, high in saturated and trans fats, chemically charged, artificial sweetners and sugar.  When I eat “anti-food” I tend to feel worse than before I changed to this way of eating.  This can last up to two days or more.  The upside is that it keeps me motivated to Eat Clean.

The energy you feel when you are balancing your complex carbs and protein is noticeable.  I definitely feel more sluggish on the days I do not eat my 4 egg whites along with my oatmeal and berries.  As you know making good decisions at breakfast increases your chances of making good decisions throughout the day.  This does not just apply to dietary choices.  If you feel good you make better decisions and are generally in a better mood.  Things just seem to flow better don’t you find?

According to Tosca Reno, author of The Eat Clean Diet, “When you eat Clean foods, your body breaks down and uses every single molecule.  Every one!  Each one of those molecules makes it some place in your body where it does something for your health.  Protein molecules go to building and repairing tissue.  Healthy fat molecules assist with lubricating cells and keeping hair, skin and other organs healthy.  Molecules from complex carbohydrates provide usable energy.  Fiber cleans out your system.  Water carries the nutrients through your body.  Mom was right – you really are what you eat!

If you have not picked up a copy of Clean Eating magazine, do yourself a favor, get one.  It is loaded with great information and several really good Eat Clean meals and desserts (yes, desserts too!)  I believe this to be one of the BEST magazines of its kind out there.

I hope you take up the Eat Clean challenge and become a regular poster on our Eat Clean Forum.  I’m still waiting for Kirsten’s first post.  She suffered a little set back due to relocation and a new job but I’m keeping her name on the forum to give her incentive to get back to it!!!
